6-Week Horseback Riding Sessions

Children and adults with physical, mental and/or emotional disabilities are invited to participate in a 6-week session of Horseback Riding lessons.  Weekly classes are scheduled Monday-Saturday mornings, afternoons and evenings for Individual Riders and Schools or Groups.  Classes may include barn safety, grooming and saddling, mounted exercises, riding instruction and trail rides, all tailored to the riders’ abilities.  Each class focuses on increasing each rider’s skills, whether it consists of properly holding the reins, learning to guide the horse through an obstacle course, or trotting or cantering independently.  Classes are taught by a PATH-certified Instructor (Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship, International), assisted by an Aide, and each rider will have a horse leader and one or two sidewalkers if needed to assist with balance or help reinforce the Instructor’s directions in learning a new skill.

KSRP offers three 6-week sessions of classes each year:

  • Spring session runs mid-April to the end of May
  • Summer session runs end of June to early August
  • Fall session runs mid-September to the end of October

Each rider rides with the same class once a week for 6 weeks. A 7th week is scheduled as a make-up week in case a class is cancelled due to weather or other reasons.

Weekday daytime classes are scheduled with school groups. They generally start around 9:30 or 10:00 am and may run until 12 or 1:00, depending upon the number of riders in a class and the number of classes scheduled for that day. These classes may be offered Monday-Friday.

Weekday Evening and Saturday classes are scheduled with individual riders who arrive with their family, but ride with the same group every week. Riders are scheduled according to their riding abilities and goals, so the whole class is working on similar activities. Evening classes are scheduled 5:30-6:30 and 6:45-7:45. In the summers when days are longer, a third class may be added from 8:00-9:00 pm. Evening classes may be offered Monday-Thursday evenings. Saturday classes are generally scheduled from 8:45-9:45, 10:00-11:00, 11:15-12:15, 12:45-1:45 and 2:00-3:00.

The specific days and times classes are scheduled depends upon Instructor availability and may change each session.
